for families

Q7) Image that would enhance the text message

Q1) Which page did you analyze?
I analyzed the “For Families” page on the Highlander Charter School website: https://highlandercharter.org/for-families

Q2) Who are the members of your group?
The members of my group are Mikayla (me), Jacob, Jess, Allison, and Alex.

Q3) Who is the apparent target audience for your site? Who was it written for?
The page is written for parents and guardians of Highlander Charter School students. It provides access to practical information such as calendars, lunch menus, uniform guidelines, wellness policies, and student handbooks. It also includes resources like Skyward and Class Dojo to help families stay connected to their child’s academic progress and classroom activities. Overall, the tone and structure show that the page is designed to serve as a central hub for families who are already part of the Highlander community.

Q4) Who should it have been written for?
The page is well-suited for current families, but it could also better serve prospective families who want to learn what makes Highlander’s family involvement unique. Adding a short introduction about how the school partners with parents, supports students, and values communication would make the page more inviting. This would help new or future families understand not just what resources exist, but why they matter to the school community.

Q5) Is the amount of text appropriate? Could it be said more concisely? Would it benefit from additional text?
Overall, the amount of text feels appropriate because it offers all the key resources families might need in one place. Each section serves a clear function, and nothing seems unnecessary. However, the content could be formatted more effectively, for instance, adding brief one-sentence summaries under each link and organizing long lists with headings or collapsible menus would make it easier for parents to navigate. The information itself doesn’t need to be reduced or expanded; it just needs a cleaner layout for readability.

Q6) Show how you would rewrite the text.
I tried to simplify the layout and wording so that parents can quickly find what they need while keeping the page welcoming and easy to read.:
